Wild drives in Lower Bhavani, Shollurmattam & Bommiyampadi Tribal zone

Ramesh Kutty never disappoints us as for the last 10+ years he always planned great trips for us… This time around being end of Winter we planned for an awesome wild and virgin trips to the unknown places of Nilgiri belt and chose Pethukottai, Lower Shollur mattam and Bommiyampadi ranges which are relatively unknown but offers amazing wildlife and offroading experiences and also places which will make us feel happy….

On Day 1 of a 3 day trip we left from Bangalore around 6am and stopped in Kodiveri Dam waterfall around 11am for a brief 30 mins to enjoy the roaring cauvery river and reached Pethukottai for lunch and visited the backwaters of Bhavani dam which is so secluded with crystal clear water and a beautiful island temple which can be walked in drier months and needs a Parisal ( Theppa) on monsoon and winter months, the police doesnt allow people to travel in theppa nowdays as few have died few months back in the dam so view the beauty of the place away from the waters…The same place will host large herds of  wild elephants around April and May evenings so stay careful if ur going there..

Day 2  we did a crazy off road to Lower Shollur mattam area from Coimbatore and this can be only done with an off roading vehicle.. Whole day we stayed inside the dense jungles for 100+ kms offroading and witnessed loads of waterfalls, Indian Gaurs and other small wild animals on the way..The feel of being alone in that vast dense forests gave us so much of satisfaction...The Thrilling points are the river crossing we have to do on few places and were thrilling moments…

Day 3 we started early morning to the beautiful Anaikatty forest zone in the Palakad district and went on to visit The Bommiyampadi wildlife tribal settlement where the merge of Siruvani and Bhavani river can be seen.. We witnessed the Irula’s trible settlement and understood their lifestyle away from the human settlements…We also witnessed they building their homes with just burnt clay..

One cannot go here to all these place on their own as google maps doesnt have tagged places and if you want to visit ping me or comment below so that I can share the contact details...

All together 3 days are well spent on the wildest zone and anyone who needs to get this trip done needs permission from various levels and kindly ping me and I will let you know the process.. Not to forgot or not to mention the stupendous foods from the Kongunadu of Coimbatore and its a non veg heaven....Thanks for reading..
